For those who are trying to learn about cognitive load this example is how to measure a “time on task” and not cognitive load.
cognitive load actually has very little to do with time and a lot to do with the criticality, risk, frequently and consequence of an action or decision or task.
For example: what is the cognitive load of deciding to close a valve in a nuclear power plant? Then a stepped process on how to rate and measure the tasks and decisions involved in that task.
